Union Minister Piyush Goyal Unveils ‘The Bharat Project’ to Empower 1 Million Entrepreneurs
On Monday, Union Minister Piyush Goyal launched The Bharat Project, a transformative initiative aimed at uplifting 1 million entrepreneurs from India’s Tier 2, Tier 3 cities and rural areas.
What is The Bharat Project?
Spearheaded by YourStory, this nationwide initiative seeks to bridge the gap between grassroots talent and entrepreneurial success. It aims to unite government bodies, ecosystem enablers, creators, and local communities to create a stronger startup foundation in India’s heartland. The focus is on making access to business tools, education, mentorship, and funding simpler and more inclusive.
The Bharat Project stands on five strong pillars:
Co-Pilot for Entrepreneurs
Education & Upskilling
Bharat Ideathon
BharatSparks
Shuru-kar
Together, these components aim to spark innovation at the grassroots level, empower new-age founders, and create a dynamic startup culture beyond the big cities.
Piyush Goyal’s Vision
Highlighting the country’s growth journey, Minister Goyal shared,
“India is firmly on the path to becoming a global economic powerhouse. We’ve already reached a $4 trillion economy, and by 2047, we aim to grow that eightfold—to $30–35 trillion. This initiative is part of a larger roadmap to boost startups across various sectors, support first-time founders, and back innovation with a Rs 10,000 crore seed fund.”
A Message from YourStory
Shradha Sharma, founder and CEO of YourStory, added,
“India’s next big ideas won’t just come from metros—they’re being born in the kitchens, courtyards, and streets of Bharat. The Bharat Project is our commitment to make sure every dreamer from every corner of the country has the support and stories they need to turn their ideas into real change.”
